After much anticipation, Ford Motor Co. has unveiled the new F-150 truck at the Detroit auto show. Along with it comes the announcement of some huge changes for America’s top-selling vehicles. This is not something to be taken lightly… well, in this case, perhaps it is.
One of the largest changes? The 2015 F-150’s body is made out of aluminum. Yes, you read that right! While it cost more than traditional steal, it can help save fuel over the long run because it makes the new 2015 Ford F-150 weigh approximately 700 pounds less than the current model, per Ford. Other weight trimming factors, a frame made from high-strength steel.

Fuel economy can be a big factor in selecting a truck for many consumers. In fact, about 40% of F-150 buyers are already choosing a more fuel efficient V6 engine over the traditional V8. To meet the needs of consumers, Ford has the EcoBoost engine, which is a V6 (and touts the fuel efficiency) but provides towing and hauling capabilities similar to the bigger V8.
Among the new features offered on the new F-150, there is a tailgate that can be locked, unlocked and released remotely and a camera system that assists in parking by giving the driver a view of the truck as if seen from above.
